Rust's August update in detail: players now keep the monuments running

Power Trip landed on 6 August 2026 with Player Maintained Monuments: the Power Plant can be switched back on, and what it powers reaches from the oil rigs to the supermarket.

Heavy Fuses are found as loot and go into new fuse boxes at the Power Plant. Not everything switches on at once: some features need more fuses than others. While the plant runs, the roadside power poles with transformers supply electricity that players can tap for their own circuits, and the poles can be climbed without a ladder.

Satellite crash

Satellite crash

A new event starts at the Launch Site. Power the Satellite Control Computer with an aiming module, pick a satellite and steer it with the thruster buttons; there is no manual, so you find out yourself which button does what. Once locked in, everyone on the server sees the satellite come down. After impact its loot crates need to cool before they can be opened.

Crude oil for the Dome

Crude oil for the Dome

With the plant running, a switch on Large Oil Rig pumps crude oil to the Dome for 20 minutes. You need the Tanker vehicle module to drain it and a car lift to extract it. A switch on Small Oil Rig pumps at half the rate; with both on you get 1.5 times the crude.

Supermarket, gas station and Airfield

The Supermarket has a freezer that hands out chilled food while it has power, with a larger cache now and then. At the gas station the garage door and a working car lift come alive with grid power or the backup generator, and the cave below has a chance of better car parts. In the Airfield tower one terminal raises the rate of air drops and a larger one calls a Chinook crate to the tarmac.

Water Treatment Plant

Water pipes now appear along roads but start empty. Inside Water Treatment Plant two gearboxes pressurise the tank: with the grid live, insert a gear and turn the wheel. Gears are used up as it turns. At full pressure water flows to the pipes across the map.

High walls and water wells

High external walls now cost a fixed 20% upkeep, to make it expensive to fence off large parts of the map. Water well vendors keep their prices but stock only 2 of each item instead of 10, and restock every 10 minutes instead of every 2.

Respawn points and shields

One sleeping bag or bed can be shown on your compass, and bags can be marked as favourites on the death screen so they are listed first. Shields can be switched between carried on your back while aiming and held to the side for blocking, with a short cooldown between switches.

Wolf Headdress

Crafting the Wolf Headdress now needs a tier 1 workbench, to give other helmets a chance in early bow fights. The lunar new year animal masks became skins of it.

Also in this update

  • The Recycle Bin workbench upgrade has its own take-only inventory for bonus items.
  • Ore nodes and wood piles no longer spawn in safe zones.
  • Stored rent at the Apartment Complex is capped at 72 hours, and the Master Key has a proper model.
  • Equipping a weapon attachment can be heard from 20 m instead of 60 m.
  • Fishing villages sell kayaks and paddles directly.
  • The game loads to the main menu about twice as fast.
