Rust's June update in detail: a new player model, Ballistic Armour and the M16A2
Built Different landed on 4 June 2026. The player model was rebuilt from scratch, and two loot-only rewards joined the top of the gear ladder.
A new player model
The old player model was almost ten years old and held back animations and future features, so it was rebuilt: new meshes and materials, more realistic proportions on a new skeleton, more heads with their own materials, and more hair.
Animations that match first person
Third-person animations now match what the player sees in first person, in both action and timing. More weapons have animations made specifically for them, and aiming uses a more natural angled stance instead of standing square to the target. A new system lets the developers add small, self-contained animations without touching the one huge setup that everything shared before.
Ballistic Armour and the BDU
Ballistic Armour is the first new top-tier armour set in a long time. It protects better than craftable armour, comparable to metal armour with plates, and cannot be crafted: you have to find it. The Battle Dress Uniform is loot-only clothing with slightly better protection than existing clothes.
The M16A2
The M16A2 is a military rifle from end-game loot that also cannot be crafted. It fires three-round bursts with high accuracy and rate of fire, is strongest at medium range, and does less damage per shot than the LR-300.
